5 free-to-use keyword research tools

|

Keyword research is an essential part of any search engine optimisation campaign. We’ve put together a list of our favourite five free-to-use keyword research tools in order to help you kick-start your SEO campaign.

1. Google Adwords Keyword Research Tool

Handily, Google have released their own keyword research tool as part of their Google Adwords platform. You don’t need to be an Adwords user to use it, either. Simply head over to the Adwords Keyword Tool and you’re away. The tool gives rough counts in terms of monthly searches and competition for each keyword, but you should take care not to take this information too literally – Google never give away their secrets!

2. Wordtracker

Although the main Wordtracker keyword research tool is a subscription service, there is a free service available, albeit with greatly reduced features. It’s still a worthy tool, though.

3. WordStream

WordStream has a free keyword research tool allows you to enter one search phrase, to which it will respond with a list of search phrases and keywords which stem from your original phrase, allowing you to explore search terms which you may not have otherwise thought of.

4. Keyword Discovery / Trellian

Trellian’s Keyword Discovery tool does much the same as WordStream and can be used in tandem with it in order to ensure you’re considering all possible keywords. It compiles its data from a number of search engines, giving accurate and relevant data.

5. Wordze

The Wordze website contains a whole host of keyword research and SEO tools, and has a 30-day free trial option, allowing you to trial all the features Wordze has to offer before deciding whether or not to continue with a paid plan. With more than fifteen tools at your fingertips, this looks to be the ultimate keyword research suite.
