10 Social media websites covering for traffic building

I’ve gone through lots of social media sites in the last one year to submit news/articles from my websites/blogs and favorite stuff around. My experience with some of them was great and some were just waste of time.

We love to visit social media websites where we get latest news about the topics we are interested in. I’ve created a list of 10 social media websites where I get the stuff of my choice and also been able to drive some quality traffic on my websites:

• Digg – is the most popular social media website covering all major topics including Technology, World & Business, Science, Gaming, Lifestyle, Entertainment, Sports with many sub categories. Users can submit videos and images with news/articles of their choice here. If you are able to bring any of your story on Digg home page, then you can expect thousands of visitors to your website from Digg in few hours time only which in some cases may cause your server crash down due to high volume of traffic.

• Propeller – another social news website like Digg covering all major categories including News, Politics, Health, Technology, Science, Art, Movies, Travel, Food, Family, Money, Sports, Videos, Celebrity news etc. Propeller is not as effective as Digg in terms of traffic but one can expect few thousand visitors from propeller to their website if they are make to make the homepage of Propeller.

• StumbleUpon – One should not expect thousands of visitors from StumbleUpon for their postings here. Stumblers can expect few hundred clicks on the stories submitted here with just few reviews if received. I’ve been able to achieve some traffic from StumbleUpon on my blogs. Users use ‘StumbleUpon Toolbar’ to find interesting websites, videos, photos, voting and for communicating with other Stumblers here. According to BBC World StumbleUpon is a brilliant downloadable toolbar that beds into your browser and gives you the chance to surf through thousands of excellent pages that have been stumbled upon by other web-users.

• Delicious – Again one can expect few thousand hits to their website in a short interval of time if they are able to make it to the home page of Delicious. But for doing that, one need to create a big social network here. We use tagging while submitting or bookmarking the stories here.

• Reddit – is another social news site with lots of latest news and something for everyone. It has wide variety of categories including News, politics, Science, Gaming, Business, Entertainment, Technology, Programming etc where you can submit your stories. But to get to the home page at Reddit, again one needs to create a social network here.

• Mixx – is the newest of social media sites that is getting bigger and has so far achieved good amount of traffic in a short span of time. One of user at Mixx.com submitted story from my Making money online blog covering 51 ways to make your blog popular here made to the home page of Mixx and I was able to get around 300 visitors for that story in a short period of time. So you can expect few hundred hits from Mixx.com on your website if you are able to make it to the FrontPage at Mixx.com. So if you have a website or blog related to News, Business, Entertainment, Sports, Health, Technology or Science etc then you should try submitting some of your favorite stories here.

• Sphinn – is the social new site for search and internet marketing experts. If you have a website/blog related to internet marketing, blogging, Social Media, Search Engines, Online marketing and Monetization, then you should try Sphinn.

• Newsvine – is another community driven news website. Users can contribute here by submitting favorite news, voting and commenting on submitted news. If we submit interesting news here and are able to collect some votes for that, we can expect good amount of traffic from it.

• Indianpad – Indian social media site with large user base mostly from India covering all major categories including Science/technology, Entertainment, News, Sports and Videos.

• Shoutwire – Covers all major categories like Technology, Business, Politics, Entertainment, Lifestyle, Education and Sports etc. If you have a website related to any of the mentioned categories, should try submitting here.
